Throwback Cut of the Day - Mac Band "Roses Are Red"

The McCampbell brothers, from Dallas by way of Flint, MI, formed the Mac Band in Los Angeles. They earned some quick R&B success with their debut LP The Mac Band featuring the McCampbell Brothers in 1988 for MCA. "Roses Are Red" topped the R&B charts, and put the Mac Band in the unusual spot of having its one-shot be a number one hit. They never again came close to landing a big record. The group consisted of the McCampbell brothers Ray, Derrick, Charles and Kelvin, backed by bassist Ray Flippin, keyboardist Rodney Frazier, guitarist Mark Harper, and drummer Steve Fuller. The duo of L.A. and Babyface helped cut their producing teeth on the Mac Band's first session, along with Atlantic Starr's David and Wayne Lewis. Gary Taylor produced and wrote most of the cuts for their unsuccessful follow-up, Luv U 2 the Limit, in 1990. Frazier also recorded with Atlantic Starr. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide

Finally some new Glenn Lewis

Man this update is long overdue....I've been waiting for some new music from my boy out of Canada for awhile. ..I hear he actually released a second cd since his debut "World Outside My Window". That Cd, in my opinion, was an instant classic. These two cutz are said to be from his upcoming 3rd cd. Check them out and let me know what you think.

New Artist To Check For * Mic Little*

Mic Little will definitely follow in the footsteps of Sammie, J'son, The Boyz, Chris Brown, Usher and young Michael Jackson. With assistance from one of Def Jam's franchise players, Ne-Yo, on his first single "Put It in A Letter", Mic is definitely set to be successful out the gate. Mic is said to be the youngest artist ever signed to Def Jam and after taking a listen you can see why.

Game Vs Ras Kass

Ya'll know i had to put this article in on Game and Ras Kass fighting..This is a trip but i kinda thought a confrontation was inevitable for these two...Two talented mc's ..Can't we all get along!!!...

West coast rappers Ras Kass and The Game squared off in a physical confrontation last night (Sept. 14) at a Los Angeles club.Ras Kass is on a nationwide tour with Rakim and Kid Capri. Both of the internationally respected West coast rappers were in club Element, when Game confronted Ras Kass over the lyrics to the song "Caution," a song Ras Kass recorded over a year ago.Get a thousand tattoos and won't raise ya gun / so when you get merked I'ma raise ya son /The lyrics to the song sparked the confrontation between the two men."The ni**a tried to jump me 30 to 2, yet I'm alive and chillin' my sweater is still white and all my jewelry intact," Ras Kass told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "Game is a 'Change of Heart,' stripping, fake-ass blood who sold some records riding Dr Dre's shirt tails. I guess he thought this would help him sell some more records. I was so unfazed by it all that I went up to his car afterwards and challenged him right there. Game is no match for me physically or lyrically."Game told AllHipHop.com that he never had a problem with Ras Kass until the rapper dissed him on the track. He also disputed Ras Kass' account of the confrontation."Aint nobody hit that dude but me, he's crazy talking about 30 people," Game told AllHipHop.com. "I never had beef and never met Ras Kass, unless it was a quick exhange saying hello. He talked about my son by name. You can say what you want about me, but what does my son got to do with it? I seen the n***a in the club. I walked up to him in the club and it was my mans birthday, so I didn't want to mess up his party. When the lights came on, at the end I asked him about the freestyle. He said it wasn't nothing, but he started in on that 'it's whatever I'm Ras Kass and punched him in the face before he could finish."According to representatives for Ras Kass, he has no intentions on continuing the feud."He can sell records on his own dime," Ras Kass said alluding to Game's upcoming album The Doctor's Advocate."I don't benefit me to mess with these kinds of small cats," Game said, adding that he would not be responding to Ras Kass lyrically either."Ras Kass' career is over," Game said. "I ended it with that one punch last night."The Doctors Advocate was scheduled to hit stores Nov. 7, but the album release date has been pushed back one week, until Nov. 14.Source: AllHipHop.Com

The Return of Jigga!!

The Return of Jigga!!!

Today is definitely a good day…I just got news that President Carter decided to officially make a return and slay these fools…lol…Ask yourself…” Who has held the rap game down since Hova decided to chill for a minute?”....lol....Let’s go down the list..naw…let’s not…..The rumored title of the new cd is said to be Kingdom Come . According to an upcoming article in Entertainment Weekly with Jigga on the cover confirms that Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Kanye West, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin are all producing songs. Pharrell has also let the cat out the bag that he is also working on the project, as well as Scott Storch…I’m hearing that his cd will drop a week after Nas. So of course there are already folks trying to start drama on that issue. Just like with the release of Meth’s cd so close to The Roots latest classic. But like I read on a message board, “What’s wrong with 2 good cd’s being released so close…nothing….True headz are going to pick up both!!”…I’m glad my favorite MC is back…The freestyles have been fire sense his retirement. One line comes to mind “If I comeback like Jordan …wearing the 4…5….It ain’t to play games with you…It’s to aim at you…..”…C’mon the boy is a genius ..Below I have a couple of cool jay z stuff ..check it out …

NEW GROUP TO CHECK 4 - CHAPTER 4

L.A R&B group Chapter 4 are just starting to make some noise with their remake of the Isley Brothers 'Fool Wit U.' But when the quartet release their debut album on J Records in October, expect a lot more noise, if Clive Davis has anything to say about it.
"Clive Davis was very hands-on the project," says Donte Clark. "He's not letting anything slip through his fingers. He considers us his secret weapon for 2007."
"We talked to Mr. Davis about making an album, he called up some of the homies, and after that everything was smooth as butter," adds J'Son Thomas, laughing. But the list of producers on their yet-untitled CD is hardly a joke: Among those lending their talents to Chapter 4 are Outkast's Big Boi, Scott Storch, Rodney Jerkins, Underdog and more.
Davis was also very involved with the video, which pays homage to the Isley Brothers and their era. "It's giving you the old '70s vibe," Gavin Rhone says.
"Clive Davis is a genius," adds Barry "ay R" Reed. "The video is taking you back to that vintage type of thing -- very classy, sexy, seductive, cool and updated. It's extra-fly."

*Check for these guys...they used to be under another name when they were younger and J'son used to be a solo artist...I put this info on here due to the fact i've been digging their latest single..Click song title to listen*

Swiss Beats working on New Jay and Nas Callabo!

The Fader Blog recently sat down with Swizz Beatz and he played them a track that supposedly samples a line from Nasir's "Hate Me Now"--"when you on top there's envy." When asked if the track will appear on Hip-Hop Is Dead (Nas' upcoming Def Jam debut), Swizz replied that it's actually for Nas and Jay-Z.

Peep game:
"...last night at a party in NYC for toy company Kid Robot (where Swizz is a partner), dude got on the CD-Js to test out new material - namely, a moody banger sampling Nasir's "when you on top, there's envy" line. We asked if it was going on the new Nas record, and Swizzy said the track is for Nas AND Jay. Dunt dunt dunnnnn..."Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here, but this sounds like that dream collabo you've been holding your breath for. Now I really hope they don't end up forcing things in the studio just because we've had our hands out for five years wishing for this to happen. Kinda reminds me of Rakim saying that the ONLY way Nas is getting featured on his album is if the vibe is right and the song is spectacular. The rest of the Fader interview with Swizz Beatz is definitely worth your 12 minutes, seeing as he talks about other stuff he's been working on, and how he was able to clear those Biggie Jay-Z samples for Cassidy and T.I.

How About That Weekend!!

What a weekend...Well, my weekend began friday with a much needed trip to the movies. I got a chance to check out "The Protector" with Tony Jaa.. Great Movie!!!...If you enjoy martial arts and hong kong cinema, check it out. Saturday was also great, with a win in college football from Oklahoma University.

Keep up the good work.. Did a lil xboxing as well as some cleaning in my apt. Just a laid back weekend.. Sunday was also great with those Philadelphia Eagles spanking the Texans.

Man I gotta say it. How about the game play from the new wide reciever of the Eagles Donte Stallworth? .. Ol Gary don't take no mess!! lol (in my best country voice)...check out this chappele spoof below . It reminded me of that mini series...
Man i miss Chappelle Show.. O yeah and check out GC getting his John Cena on at the bottom..

Throwback Hit of the Day - "Candlelight and You" by Chante Moore and Keith Washington

This song was definitely "my jam" back in the day. I can still remember when i purchased the House Party II Soundtrack like it was yesterday. I would always zone out when this song came on. This song definitely makes you wanna pop in the early Chante stuff like "Precious" and Keith Washington's song " Are You Still In Love With Me". Hands down one of the great duets. I also love the second duet off of Keith's third LP, "KW". The song was entitled "I Love You". Great mood music.

Where has this guy been?....Trey Lorenz had a decent album back in the days. He was more so known for singing background with MC and accompanying her on the live remake of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There". Trey has continued to sing background for Mariah Carey over the years and contributed his vocals to 'Get Your Number,' 'I Wish You Knew,' 'Joy Ride,' & 'Fly Like A Bird' all from the multi platinum selling Emancipation of Mimi cd. Be sure to check for his upcoming cd entitled “Mimi Presents Trey Lorenz – Mr. Mista”(release date is Sept 19th). This song has MC on the background with Trey doing his thing. He was a good talent I hope he does well...Take a listen.

Footage of Mos Def performance from the VMA's

You know I had 2 do it. I stumbled upon this footage. Mos Def is definitely the real deal. Arrest or no arrest, his point was made. Just listen to the footage of the crowd. This one incident definitely reminds me of what is missing from hip hop. I love the success and the bling, but it's good to see some activism going on. I can't stress this enough. He would have never been able to get approval to do this and the fact he was able to drop a verse on the issue was real. One of the best moments of the night. They should have televised it. Enjoy.

Do The Tuesday!!

Do the Tuesday!! Courtesy of George Jefferson. I hope everyone had a great labor day weekend. Well let's do a lil update. My boy Ron Isley aka Mr. Biggs is about to do a three year bid for tax issues. Why do i have the gut feeling he is going to be treated like an O.G. in prison? I also can't wait to see if he's going to be able to keep that perm up on the other side..

More Beef!

Uhh oh...Just when you thought is was safe to eat another steak. There is more Hip Hop beef. I personally think a good beef in hip hop is healthy. When it has some merit behind it?...Most notable KRS-1 vs MC Shan, Ice Cube vs Common, LL Cool J vs Canibus as well as Kool Moe Dee. But the latest is kinda funny. Well evidently, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson doesn't like Sean "P.Diddy" Combs. I know you guys and gals may be saying "What's so new about this?..50 doesn't like anyone."...Yeah I know. He's starting to be become Mr. Me Too on so many levels. Well seems that Diddy didn't really let Mase completely go. He's kinda in a B-Unit Status...lol ...meaning not quite out of Bad Boy, not completely G-Unit. I guess there was some Window Shopping going on...LOL...Anyways 50 just freestlyed a diss directed towards Diddy entitled "The Bomb", where Curtis does his best Dead Prez interpretation. Its actually not bad, but airing out your money biz on wax sometimes sounds silly. The big homie even called out how much money Diddy owes him for Mase's traveling expenses..LOL...This is a trip. And in reply Diddy has a freestyle talking about how he has more money. LOL..That's straight playground gangsta....My Pockets are Bigger than yours!!!...lol COMEDY.....lol...I think the wildest line in this fued is the one where 50 talks about how Diddy knows who killed but is to scary to go to the west coast and handle up. ....Gotta love the way he goes for the jugular even if he doesn't really belive that...Way to step up Diddy and reply...but uhhh...STOP!..No more replies ...Please!!....I mean i'm not a music CEO but why do i see a free Mase attempt down the pipeline similar to the "free the Lox" campaign, and the later "free the Lox publishing". We all know what happened at the end of those. Puffy gave in. There is also another dagger from 50 on the song "Get Down".

On "Get Down," which also features Tony Yayo and Hot Rod, 50 pokes fun at one of Puff's most recent endorsements, the skin-care product Proactiv. "You probably heard Mase tried to join the team/ 'Cause Puff was too busy trying to sell pimple cream ... Next he'll sell Maybelline/ Or dance next to [Yung] Joc, trying to get hot."

But at the end of the day this is pub for both parties. G Unit has been flopping more the fat people belly dives at the public pool and Bad Boy hits you with singles but has a hard time living up to the star studded line up of the past. Good or bad, its pub for both parties. In the immortal words of Pops (Clarance Witherspoon) "My Dicks Bigger than yourssssss!!!!"

50 Cent- The Bomb

Diddy - I'm Richer Bich!

Notable mentions

LL Cool J chill with the Def Jam disses. Icon you are, but Jigga didn't mess up your CD. ("Let's All Play the Blame Game"..LL man Up!

A big "Rest in Piece" goes out to the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. A sting ray got the best of him this weekend. Hey ...Stop Laughing..and quit the jokes at work. But on the real tip. Jacque Custo was to cool to get that close. I remember him either behind some caged contraption or somewhere comfortable with a pipe and his beanie. Ol Dirty Bastard "Jacque Custo could never get this loowwww!!....."

O yeah and thanks to the Turner family this weekend for providing the great Bar B Que and vittles. It was a great look. I definitely had the ITIS afterwards.

*definition of the "ITIS"*

The itis is a term in Black American Vernacular English to describe a condition of sleepiness associated with food. The foods commonly considered to be soul foods are generally high in both fat and carbohydrates, and are thus more likely to induce sleepiness. The suffix -itis, while used clinically to describe an inflammation, has come in the public mind to refer to any medical condition, along with -osis. With the advent of modern popular culture and the popularity of black comedians in the United States, the concept of the "Itis" has moved beyond its provincial roots and has become fairly well known throughout American culture, and to a certain extent beyond.

Thank God It's Friday!!!!

What's the damn deal?..This is ya boy K1llBill aka Lil Freaky. Just dropping some words and news bits for Sep 1. Well as you can see above, there is a JT link. The boy got off last night athe VMA's. The boy looked to be in prime form last night. The performance was on point. I definitely enjoy seeing great choreography. The boy had alot of Usher esk moves but they both tend to summon the spirits of Michael Jackson and Fred Astere. Yeah i said it. Its the truth! Great performance. I'm not going to really speak on the awards that were given, because we all know a panel is deciding who wins on prefrence and not sales or quality. Yeah i said that 2. lol...Anyways, B got off last night but the Black Catwoman outfit had me wanting to "Ring the Alarm" my damn self. The best thighs , legs , hocks (or whatever you wanna call'em) award winner hands down. Go Jay. I am not even mad atcha. In the immortal words of Uncle " Go B ..It's Ya Birthday!!!!" "Virgo ..It's ya Birthday!!!"....RING THE ALARM" Yes Siiirrrrrrrrrrr!!!

On the serious tip. I heard my boy "The Mighty Mos Def" was arrested last night before the show. They say he attempted to stage an impromtu peformance of "Katrina Clap", in an effort to shine some awarness on the government and their handling of the tragedy. Some are saying he didn't have the correct permits to perform. But these types of performances will never get the ok. So Mos Def keep doing the damn thang. Mos is one of those cats that can make me get my head nod on as well as school you in the same verse. Some MC's would kill for this ability.

What the hells with.....?

1. What the hell's with DMX singing "Lord Give Me A Sign"...when he's always getting arrested and his people are always begging him to get his shit togther. Brother the Lord has been giving you signs for a long damn time.

2. What the hell's with media acting suprised that Madden NFL is selling through the roof. *Newsflash* EA purchased all exclusive rights to damn near and organization that touches the pigskin. Football fans can't buy anything but Madden. It doesn't take Bill Gates to tell you that if you corner the market, you should sell copys. It's the drug dealer philosophy ...If you move the competition off the block.. You become the only supply. In the immortal words of Frank White " You guys got fat while everyone else starved!!!"

3. What the hells with the Black Eyed Peas winning best Hip Hop video on the VMA's ...hmmm....OK..........I don't think so...

4. What the hells with Chamillionaire winning best Rap video on the VMA's over T.I. , Busta , and 50 ....hmmmmmmm.....uhhhh...No!

5. What the hells with the Pussy Cat Dolls acting like they are a group... We all know they are one singer. UNO!......EINS!

6. What the hells with the woman that sits a section over from me, at work....that sneezes so loud ..it sounds like James Brown..."HAAAAACHOOOOO! GOOD GOD!!!!""""

7. What the hells with 50 Cent talking so damn slow that LL had already announced the winner like a month before Mr. Jackson could even finishing pronouncing her. LOL

8. What the hells with the US Basketball team losing to Greece...We'll never see another dream team...

9. What the hells with the plane skit from Conan Obrian on the Emmys .lol...way to close to 9/11 for that mess..

10. What the hells with the Burger King...Dude is hella spooky....
